The Book of the Revelation

CHAPTER 11

Revelation 11:1 And there was given me a reed like unto a rod: and the angel stood, saying, Rise, and measure the temple of God, and the altar, and them that worship therein.
Revelation 11:2 But the court which is without the temple leave out, and measure it not; for it is given unto the Gentiles: and the holy city shall they tread under foot forty and two months.
The temple is build during the tribulation period and the daily sacrifice is not made until 220 days into the tribulation period. The sanctuary is cleaned after 2300 days, which is at the end of 2520 days.
Daniel 8:13 Then I heard one saint speaking, and another saint said unto that certain saint which spake, How long shall be the vision concerning the daily sacrifice, and the transgression of desolation, to give both the sanctuary and the host to be trodden under foot?
Daniel 8:14 And he said unto me, Unto two thousand and three hundred days; then shall the sanctuary be cleansed.
The Anti-Christ will make a sacrifice at the half waypoint of the tribulation period and at that point the Nation of Israel is told to get out of Jerusalem.
Matthew 24:15 When ye therefore shall see the abomination of desolation, spoken of by Daniel the prophet, stand in the holy place, (whoso readeth, let him understand:)
The reed is a measuring stick which was given to John to measure the Temple of God on earth and it is not the heavenly temple. The outside court is left and it is given to the Gentiles. This shows that the law has been established again and God is dealing again with the Nation of Israel.

God is sending a message that all that is measured belongs to Him.
Many teach that this is the temple that was destroyed in 70 A. D., but Jerusalem was not trodden under foot for forty-two months. Herod's Temple, which was destroyed, had four courts and this temple has only one court.

Revelation 11:3 And I will give power unto my two witnesses, and they shall prophesy a thousand two hundred and threescore days, clothed in sackcloth.
Revelation 11:4 These are the two olive trees, and the two candlesticks standing before the God of the earth.

The two candlesticks represent the light that these two witnesses bring to the Nation of Israel. The 144,000 are also on the earth preaching the gospel of the kingdom which must be preached into all the world so the end can come. Matthew 24:14 And this gospel of the kingdom shall be preached in all the world for a witness unto all nations; and then shall the end come.
These are the two witnesses that prophesy the first three and one-half years of the tribulation period. They are called two olive trees and the two candlesticks standing before God. These are the two anointed ones found in Zechariah 4:11-14.
Zechariah 4:11 Then answered I, and said unto him, What are these two olive trees upon the right side of the candlestick and upon the left side thereof?
Zechariah 4:12 And I answered again, and said unto him, What be these two olive branches which through the two golden pipes empty the golden oil out of themselves?
Zechariah 4:13 And he answered me and said, Knowest thou not what these be?  And I said, No, my lord.
Zechariah 4:14 Then said he, These are the two anointed ones, that stand by the LORD of the whole earth.

Revelation 11:5 And if any man will hurt them, fire proceedeth out of their mouth, and devoureth their enemies: and if any man will hurt them, he must in this manner be killed.
Revelation 11:6 These have power to shut heaven, that it rain not in the days of their prophecy: and have power over waters to turn them to blood, and to smite the earth with all plagues, as often as they will.
These two anointed ones could destroy their enemies with fire and one of them had the power to shut heaven so that it would not rain during the days of his prophecy. The other anointed one had the power to turn the waters into blood and to smite the earth with plagues. These two anointed one must be Elijah and Moses because of the powers they had on earth and the fact both stood before the Lord of the whole earth and were present on the Mount of Transfiguration. Matthew 17: 1 And after six days Jesus taketh Peter, James, and John his brother, and bringeth them up into an high mountain apart, Matthew 17:2 And was transfigured before them: and his face did shine as the sun, and his raiment was white as the light. Matthew 17:3 And, behold, there appeared unto them Moses and Elias talking with him.
1 Kings 17:1 And Elijah the Tishbite, who was of the inhabitants of Gilead, said unto Ahab, As the LORD God of Israel liveth, before whom I stand, there shall not be dew nor rain these years, but according to my word.
2 Kings 1:10 And Elijah answered and said to the captain of fifty, If I be a man of God, then let fire come down from heaven, and consume thee and thy fifty.  And there came down fire from heaven, and consumed him and his fifty.
Numbers 16:35 And there came out a fire from the LORD, and consumed the two hundred and fifty men that offered incense.
James 5:17 Elias was a man subject to like passions as we are, and he prayed earnestly that it might not rain: and it rained not on the earth by the space of three years and six months.
1. Moses and Elijah were both anointed.
2. Moses and Elijah stood by the Lord of the whole earth.
3. Moses and Elijah smote the earth with plagues and kept it from raining.
4. Moses and Elijah were on Mt Sinai forty days and forty nights.
5. Moses and Elijah both appeared with Jesus on the Mount of Transfiguration.

Revelation 11:7 And when they shall have finished their testimony, the beast that ascendeth out of the bottomless pit shall make war against them, and shall overcome them, and kill them.
Revelation 11:8 And their dead bodies shall lie in the street of the great city, which spiritually is called Sodom and Egypt, where also our Lord was crucified.
Jerusalem is not the Holy land today but it is called Sodom and Egypt. The beast or anti-Christ ascends out of the bottomless pit. He is not born but he is resurrected.
Revelation 17:8 The beast that thou sawest was, and is not; and shall ascend out of the bottomless pit, and go into perdition:

The beast rides in on a white horse and the tribulation period starts and is called the man of sin. This is at the half way point and Satan has just been cast out of the heavens and he enters into him and he becomes the son of perdition.
1. The beast is a man. Revelation 13:18 Here is wisdom. Let him that hath understanding count the number of the beast: for it is the number of a man; and his number is Six hundred threescore and six.
2. The beast is the angel of the bottomless pit. Revelation 9:11 And they had a king over them, which is the angel of the bottomless pit, whose name in the Hebrew tongue is Abaddon, but in the Greek tongue hath his name Apollyon.
3. The beast is the king of the bottomless pit. Daniel 7:17 These great beasts, which are four, are four kings, which shall arise out of the earth.
4. Satan has a seed. Genes 3:15 And I will put enmity between thee and the woman, and between thy seed and her seed; it shall bruise thy head, and thou shalt bruise his heel.
5. The beast must be an Assyrian from the Nation of Israel. Isaiah 30:31 For through the voice of the LORD shall the Assyrian be beaten down, which smote with a rod. Daniel 11:37 Neither shall he regard the God of his fathers, nor the desire of women, nor regard any god: for he shall magnify himself above all.
6. Jesus said that one of his twelve apostles was a devil. John 6:70 Jesus answered them, Have not I chosen you twelve, and one of you is a devil?
7. Jesus said that Judas was the son of perdition. John 17:12 While I was with them in the world, I kept them in thy name: those that thou gavest me I have kept, and none of them is lost, but the son of perdition; that the scripture might be fulfilled.
8. Paul said that the man of sin was the son of perdition. 2 Thessalonians 2:3 Let no man deceive you by any means: for that day shall not come, except there come a falling away first, and that man of sin be revealed, the son of perdition;
9. This man was on earth before John wrote; he is in the bottomless pit now; he will ascend out of the bottomless pit in the tribulation period. Revelation 17:8 The beast that thou sawest was, and is not; and shall ascend out of the bottomless pit, and go into perdition:

Revelation 11:9 And they of the people and kindreds and tongues and nations shall see their dead bodies three days and an half, and shall not suffer their dead bodies to be put in graves.
The martyrs in the Tribulation period for Christ's sake have their heads cut off. This is the way the two-witness die.
Revelation 20:4 And I saw thrones, and they sat upon them, and judgment was given unto them: and I saw the souls of them that were beheaded for the witness of Jesus, and for the word of God, and which had not worshipped the beast,

Revelation 11:10 And they that dwell upon the earth shall rejoice over them, and make merry, and shall send gifts one to another; because these two prophets tormented them that dwelt on the earth.
Revelation 11:11 And after three days and an half the Spirit of life from God entered into them, and they stood upon their feet; and great fear fell upon them which saw them.
Great fear fell upon them because they saw their heads come back on them and they stood upon their feet.
Revelation 11:12 And they heard a great voice from heaven saying unto them, Come up hither. And they ascended up to heaven in a cloud; and their enemies beheld them.
This is a visible rapture. This is not where dead bodies are changed, but is like what happen to the Lord in Acts Chapter 1. The people see them go up in a bodily resurrection and they go straight up into heaven in a cloud.

Revelation 11:13 And the same hour was there a great earthquake, and the tenth part of the city fell, and in the earthquake were slain of men seven thousand: and the remnant were affrighted, and gave glory to the God of heaven.

The Lord Jesus Christ is the God of heaven and this is why they are preaching the gospel of the kingdom so the end of the tribulation period will come and the God of heaven will come to earth.
The remnant is the Nation of Israel that God takes care of in the wildness for the last three and a half years.
Revelation 12:6 And the woman fled into the wilderness, where she hath a place prepared of God, that they should feed her there a thousand two hundred and threescore days.
These people are the one that are left on the earth and go into the kingdom with the Lord.
This is a picture of the people near the end of the tribulation period where one is taken and one is left. The one that is taken goes to hell and the one that is left goes into the
kingdom.
Matthew 24:40 Then shall two be in the field; the one shall be taken, and the other left.
Matthew 24:45 Who then is a faithful and wise servant, whom his lord hath made ruler over his household, to give them meat in due season?
Matthew 24:50 The lord of that servant shall come in a day when he looketh not for him, and in an hour that he is not aware of,
Matthew 24:51 And shall cut him asunder, and appoint him his portion with the hypocrites: there shall be weeping and gnashing of teeth.

Revelation 11:14 The second woe is past; and, behold, the third woe cometh quickly.
Revelation 11:15 And the seventh angel sounded; and there were great voices in heaven, saying, The kingdoms of this world are become the kingdoms of our Lord, and of his Christ; and he shall reign for ever and ever.
When the seventh angel sounded the Lord Jesus Christ is getting ready to return to the earth to rule and reign. This is a literal, physical, visible kingdom on earth. He is going to take the kingdoms of the world away from Satan who has been king of this world. Satan offer the kingdoms of this world to the Lord when He was on earth and tried to get Him to take them before His time. Luke 4:6 And the devil said unto him, All this power will I give thee, and the glory of them: for that is delivered unto me; and to whomsoever I will I give it.

Revelation 11:16 And the four and twenty elders, which sat before God on their seats, fell upon their faces, and worshipped God,

We see the movement chronology from the tribulation period into the millennium and beyond.

Revelation 11:17 Saying, We give thee thanks, O Lord God Almighty, which art, and wast, and art to come; because thou hast taken to thee thy great power, and hast reigned.

This verse tells us that the Lord Jesus Christ is the Lord God Almighty because He is the one that is to come and has taken His great power and has reigned.
It would seem as if the four and twenty elders spoke as if they looking back from the millennial reign of Christ because they say "hast reigned". This section of  Revelation Chapter 11:16-19 is a section that looks back on the events of the tribulation period and the millennium.

Revelation 11:18 And the nations were angry, and thy wrath is come, and the time of the dead, that they should be judged, and that thou shouldest give reward unto thy servants the prophets, and to the saints, and them that fear thy name, small and great; and shouldest destroy them which destroy the earth.
We see that the nations were angry in Revelation Chapter 20:8-9 is where the nations gather to wipe out Jerusalem and the Lord destroyed them with fire from his mouth.
Revelation 20:8 And shall go out to deceive the nations which are in the four quarters of the earth, Gog and Magog, to gather them together to battle: the number of whom is as the sand of the sea.
Revelation 20:9 And they went up on the breadth of the earth, and compassed the camp of the saints about, and the beloved city: and fire came down from God out of heaven, and devoured them.
The time that they should be judged is the White Throne Judgment. At this judgment, the servants the prophets will receive their rewards and the saints that were born during the millennium that didn't follow Satan will be in the Book of Life. Also the angels that are in the sea will be called up and judged and cast into the Lake of fire.
Revelation 20:12 And I saw the dead, small and great, stand before God; and the books were opened: and another book was opened, which is the book of life: and the dead were judged out of those things which were written in the books, according to their works.
Revelation 20:13 And the sea gave up the dead which were in it; and death and hell delivered up the dead which were in them: and they were judged every man according to their works. Jude 1:6 And the angels which kept not their first estate, but left their own habitation, he hath reserved in everlasting chains under darkness unto the judgment of the great day.

Revelation 11:19 And the temple of God was opened in heaven, and there was seen in his temple the ark of his testament: and there were lightnings, and voices, and thunderings, and an earthquake, and great hail.

The ark of His testament is seen in heaven is the real thing. On earth the ark was just a pattern of the one in heaven. In the millennium, they will not even remember the ark that was built on earth.

Jeremiah 3:16 And it shall come to pass, when ye be multiplied and increased in the land, in those days, saith the LORD, they shall say no more, The ark of the covenant of the LORD: neither shall it come to mind: neither shall they remember it; neither shall they visit it; neither shall that be done any more.
