1.
Romans 3:24 our redemption is in Christ Jesus. Deliverance was through
the paying of a price. Example:
(1)
I Cor 6:19-20 bought with a price.
(2)
I Cor 7:23 bought with a price.
(3)
Gal 3:13 redeemed us.
2.
Redemption is provided in the Bible in the OT by a kinsmen redeemer.
The kinsmen redeemer is someone who is qualified to execute the law of
redemption. He is qualified to pay the price of the debt. Lev 25:25-27 “any of
his kin”
3.
There are three requirements for redemption:
(1)
You have to be kin.
(2)
Must be able to redeem: (a) not compromised by your predicament (b) be
able to pay the whole price by yourself.
(3)
Must be willing: (a) Ruth 2:1 he is kin and able (b) Ruth 2:18-20 he is
next of kin (c) Ruth 3:11-13 there is one nearer kin (d) Ruth 4:1-6 the near
kin was able but his predicament kept him from it.
4.
Redemption comes by the kinsmen redeemer: Romans 3:24-25 propitiation
is that which is done to fully satisfy. This is the reconciliation to God and
Jesus is qualified to be our kinsman redeemer.
5.
The Justice of God: The justice of God is a function of his integrity.
God is Holy, and God is trinity. The essence of God is love, righteous,
sovereign, omnipresent, omniscient, omnipotent, immutable, perfect veracity
and eternal.
6.
God’s essence is one but in three persons: Father, Son and Holy Spirit.
Justice guards the essence of God. Justice is the attribute of God that is the
contact between God and man. Justice is the function of God’s integrity that
guards all that He is.
(1)
Righteous is the principle of God’s integrity (His holiness). God’s
righteousness demands the justice of God executed. God’s justice has to be
satisfied.
(2)
Romans 3:25 the term “blood” is a reference to a sacrifice. It’s a
characteristic of His death through faith in His blood. It is having faith in
the blood that Jesus sacrificed for us.
(3)
Propitiation accomplishes reconciliation. This is how God and man
connect. The justice of God is satisfied; therefore man can be reconciled to
God.
(4)
The means whereby the satisfaction is accomplished is redemption (blood
shed at the cross). Propitiation is our faith in that blood at the cross.
(5)
The justice of God requires that our redeemer be a near kinsman. This
is where the doctrine of incarnation comes in. Jesus is the God-man. He is in
the essence of the Godhead and He has the essence of man. He is the eternal
God the Son.
(6)
Jesus had to become a man. But He came to be Israel’s redeemer. The
middle wall separated him. (a) Matt 20:28 limited to many- not all (b) Matt
1:21 His people to be saved is Israel. (c) Luke 1:67-75 their predicament was
different from ours.
(7)
Romans 3:25 what does it mean when it says, “for the remission of sins
that are past”. It is a reference to “time past” not past sins of the life of
the believer. It is dealing with mankind’s past through history. Hebrews 9:15
He also took care of the “time past” sins of the ones under the law and
before.
(8)
Forbearance is an extension of time for a payment of a debt.
(9)
There are three requirements that had to accomplish for Jesus to be our
kinsman redeemer: 1. He become a man and is kin because he broke down the wall
of partition. 2. He was able to redeem because he was sinless and he rose from
the dead. 3. He was willing. He was faithful to shed His blood and die for us.
